Still can’t figure out powering down. Hold the power button, wait 10 seconds & it restarts! I just want ‘off’

Art, in the many forms it takes, is key to self-expression, and has greatly benefitted from the internet in terms of reach. We want to extend this process, which is why we run INQ + ART.
This is our first project: “the box is a canvas, help is a card”
Nine illustrations curated to grace the back of the INQ¹ help cards and one to dress its box, from seven illustrators we happen to really like. We thought we’d help to get the message out about what they do, and turn our packaging into objects to cherish, not chuck.

I think this says it all.
INQ1 deserves this because it is able to:
- multitask
- merge Facebook, Skype, WLM, email and SIM contacts
- display three RSS feeds as widgets on your screen
But most of all, INQ deserve this award because it’s a remarkable first handset. Look at their potential!
RT @telecomtails best mobile handset went to inq1 at #mwc awards.
Noticed a glitch - turn on phone whilst charging, then remove cable & charging icon stays animated. Restarted - accurate battery indication.
An evening at INQ
I wrote this post over on my open blog (also hosted on Tumblr). The most important news from that evening was that there will be an update sent over the air to all INQ1 handsets that will improve battery life, pre-cache Facebook photos and improve on minor glitches that users have been submitting as feedback.
Guilty Confession
I have a confession to make - I accidentally scratched the INQ1’s casing. I feel really guilty, having been trusted with this phone. The scratch is extremely small and on the back; but you can see the silver underneath the black annodised layer. I’ll try to get a photo later.
The handset slipped out of my hand as I closed it to hang up. Thankfully the phone is rugged enough to withstand being broken. It didn’t come apart either, as I often see happen in crowded places when someone drops their phone and the battery slides across the floor in a random (frequently opposite) direction to other components. Sadly though, the black layer isn’t quite as strong as the conrete just outside Goodge Street Tube Station.
Update:
I added these two photos to my Flickr:
Just getting the feed set up on Tumblr. I want to be able to quickly update The INQ1 Blog from Twitter.
Google Maps Working
Google Maps runs properly now, and I have secured it in the Switcher for quick “Help! I’m lost!” access.
I think the problem was related to the MicroSD troubles, because it wasn’t storing anything downloaded through the web browser.
The latest version of Google Maps supports Street View in areas that support it. Sadly My Location is not available on INQ1, which was never accurate on S60, but it did load the map in your rough location so there was far less panning around to waste time with.
Java Trouble
I’m lost. I’ve tried to install Google Maps. I found the download link through the Google application in the Switcher bar, which made me think that this was supported and a legitimate download for INQ1. The install went without a hitch and I was even able to add a Google Maps launcher to the Switcher.
However, I switched the phone off overnight for charging and then today I tried clicking the link to Google Maps, and an error message displayed announcing it couldn’t find the file. Google Maps had been deleted overnight.
I’m going to have a look around online for forums, support and troubleshooting. I really hope this doesn’t mean the INQ1 is unable to take any further applications.
